Part 1: Childhood Innocence (भाग 1: बचपन की मासूमियत)
Amritsar was bustling with activity. The streets were filled with shopkeepers shouting prices, and children ran around playing games.
अमृतसर चहल-पहल से भरा हुआ था। गलियों में दुकानदार कीमतें चिल्ला रहे थे, और बच्चे खेलते हुए इधर-उधर भाग रहे थे।
A ten-year-old boy, Lahna Singh, stood outside a shop. His eyes twinkled with mischief as he saw an eight-year-old girl walking with her mother.
दस साल का लहना सिंह एक दुकान के बाहर खड़ा था। उसकी आँखों में शरारत झलक रही थी, जब उसने आठ साल की एक लड़की को अपनी माँ के साथ चलते देखा।
He grinned and asked loudly, “Has your engagement happened?”
उसने मुस्कुराकर ज़ोर से पूछा, “तेरी कुड़माई हो गई?”
The girl gasped, her cheeks turning red. “Shut up, Lahna!” she shouted, running away.
लड़की हक्का-बक्का रह गई, उसके गाल लाल हो गए। “चुप रह, लहना!” उसने चिल्लाकर कहा और भाग गई।
This became their daily routine. Every time they met, Lahna would ask the same question, and the girl would blush and run.

Years passed. They grew older, but Lahna never stopped teasing her.

One day, his battalion was sent to France, where they fought in the freezing trenches.
एक दिन, उसकी बटालियन को फ्रांस भेजा गया, जहाँ वे बर्फीली खाइयों में लड़े।
There, he met Subedar Hajara Singh and his son, Bodha Singh.
वहाँ, उसकी मुलाकात सूबेदार हजारा सिंह और उनके बेटे बोधा सिंह से हुई।
During a conversation, Lahna overheard Subedar talking about his wife.
एक बातचीत के दौरान, लहना ने सूबेदार को अपनी पत्नी के बारे में बात करते सुना।
“She made me promise to take care of our son, Bodha. She worries for him.”

Lahna’s heart stopped. This was the same girl he had loved as a child.

In the darkness, Lahna ran through the battlefield, dodging bullets.

He reached the command post and delivered the message.

As he turned back, a bullet hit his chest.
